But is that really what he tweeted? Or was the real message lost in translation?
Social media was flooded with messages wishing Onam on Monday but it was a tweet by Sachin Tendulkar marking the occasion that got the most attention on Twitter.
One such greeting came from batting legend and former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who took to his Twitter account on Monday, to share a special message in the native language Malayalam.
While his heart was in the right place, Twitter’s English translation wasn’t.
While an independent google translation of Tendulkar’s message roughly meant this:

The translation done by Twitter told a different story. Twitter converted Tendulkar’s wish into this: “Who cares Happy Onam to all #HappyOnam.”

Ironically enough, as seen above in the screenshot, microblogging site Twitter also uses Google as a tool to translate different languages used by user in a tweet.
Hawk-eyed Twitter users were quick to spot the apparent Twitter gaffe and responded to Tendulkar’s tweet in amusement.
