Traders body gives CM Uddhav Thackeray ultimatum to withdraw shutdown. : Maharashtra



As part of the break the chain initiative, the Maharashtra government has shut off all non-essential shops, malls, and markets till 30th of April, traders now oppose this.

The trader body has said that if the Thursday protest fails to yield results, they will initiate a non-cooperation movement, wherein shops may be kept open in defiance and traders may refuse to pay taxes. Traders claim they have been talking to the Finance Minister and many MLAs also but have so far not received any positive response.

 

Tuesday, the first day of the shutdown, witnessed protests in Nagpur and Satara. There was also confusion in some market areas of Mumbai where shops were open as many interpreted the restrictions as only applicable on the weekends. The police ended up shutting down such shops.
