Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has updated the Motor Vehicles Act to make it compulsory for two-wheeler riders to wear a strapped or ISI-marked helmet.
If Rider is caught not wearing a HELMET it can attract a fine of Rs. 2000.
If Rider is caught wearing HELMET with straps untied it can attract a fine of Rs. 1000
If Rider is caught wearing HELMET without ISI mark it can attract a fine of Rs. 1000
Section 129 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1998 states that every person, above four years of age, driving or riding a motorcycle in public must wear protective headgear conforming to the standards of Bureau of Indian Standards.
The new rules have added speed restrictions of up to 40 kmph for a motorcycle carrying a child up to the age of four years as a pillion.
